Set up in 2014 by the Kulturfabrik’s Urban Art Esch project, whose aim was to bring urban art to their cultural space, in order to make the building and the surrounding areas more attractive and colourful. Back then, 12 European street artists worked on the walls of the former abattoir. Over the years, the project has taken on a regional scope (with over 40 works of art realized in 10 nearby towns), and also an international dimension. But there is more to Kufa’s Urban Art Esch than art, and each annual edition has proved to be a platform for encouraging the local community (with a focus on the young and on the vulnerable groups) to release their creative potential by working with high profile artists specialising in various disciplines of urban art, from murals to light and street furniture.
