This is the oldest and the most important Catholic church of Esch. St Joseph is also the only one open for visits outside of mass. This imposing structure (more like a cathedral than a church) was built by the Luxembourgish architect Charles Arendt between 1873 and 1877, in a fine neo-gothic style with a sober exterior, which contrasts with a highly decorated interior. Look out for the recently restored frescos, and stained-glass windows which are particularly attractive. Other churches to see are St Henri, Sacré Coeur and Marie-Reine.
