The Natura 2000 trail is part of the European network of the same name, which aims to preserve biological diversity in the European Union. It takes four to five hours to walk the 12km route, taking time to observe nature and consult the educational information boards. The trail is divided into three parts:
- Trail A: Humans and the forest – 5km
- Trail B: The exploitation of iron ore then and now – 4.5km
- Trail C: Nature and the former open-cast mines – 2.5km
