Though one of the prettiest hills in Esch, Gaalgebierg was once a grim place. In fact, during the 17th century it was the site of executions, hence the name “hill of the gallows”.
Today, however it is a place of relaxation for young and old. Here, as well as the serenity of unspoilt nature just a stone’s throw away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you can enjoy the sight, smell and atmosphere of gorgeous flower beds, formal gardens, forest paths and secluded lanes. This municipal park offers many possibilities for recreation and relaxation: it’s ideal for walks or jogging, but it also has a petanque court, a football field, a tennis and a basketball court. A camping site, a wildlife park, and a natural ice rink are also located here. The park is the place where people gather for festivities such as the Luxembourg Beach Open or the Bairrada party.
