Esch-sur-Alzette is considered one of the most diverse cities in Luxembourg. Such cultural diversity is reflected in its multilingual population, cultural events, and social dynamics. For this reason, every October the city celebrates Black History Month with events aimed at celebrating, recognizing, and commemorating the history, culture, achievements, and contributions of Black people around the world. This year the standout event of is an exhibition held in a public space (Place du Brill, right in the city centre) which showcases the contribution hundreds of thousands of Afro-descendant soldiers and civilians played during WWII in supporting the war efforts and contributing to victory over the Axis powers.
