Luxembourg’s National Day is celebrated every year on 23 June to mark the official birthday of the reigning Grand Duke. Honouring the monarch’s official birthday has been a proud tradition in Luxembourg since the late 18th century. In 1961, June 23rd was formally designated as « Groussherzogsgebuertsdag », irrespective of the Sovereign’s actual date of birth, and annual celebrations have been held on this date ever since.
In 2026, the celebrations carry special significance, marking the very first National Day celebrated under Grand Duke Guillaume since his accession to the throne.
In Esch, the celebrations kick off on Monday, 22 June. Residents and visitors alike are warmly invited to gather downtown to enjoy a diverse musical program, a wide selection of food and drink options, and the traditional fireworks display.
Starting at 4:00 PM, the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville (Town Hall Square) will come alive with numerous food and drink stalls, offering the public a wonderful opportunity to come together and fully immerse themselves in the festivities.
At 11:00 PM, the traditional fireworks display will light up the sky over Esch and will mark one of the highlights of the celebrations.
