The Women in War exhibition is a powerful retrospective dedicated to more than twenty years of work by American photojournalist and recipient of two Pulitzer Prizes, Lynsey Addario. Through striking images captured in Afghanistan, South Sudan, Iraq, Libya, Syria and Ukraine, the exhibition explores the lives of women in times of conflict — highlighting motherhood, survival, dignity and resilience in the face of war.
This major exhibition, presented in French, German and English, is a unique opportunity to encounter the work of Lynsey Addario for the first time in Luxembourg and to reflect on human rights through the lens of contemporary photography.
To mark the opening of the exhibition on 7 March at the National Museum of Resistance and Human Rights in Esch, the biographical film Love+War, produced by National Geographic and directed by Oscar-winning American filmmakers Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin will be screened at Abbaye de Neumünster in Luxembourg City. The film retraces Lynsey Addario’s journey in the predominantly male world of war photography.
In addition to the main exhibition visitors can discover a free outdoor preview in Place de la Résistance outside the museum. From March to December 2026, the museum will also host guided tours, workshops, talks and public events exploring photojournalism, ethics, artificial intelligence and the role of women in conflict and contemporary society. A photo-reportage competition focusing on the daily lives of women in Luxembourg will also invite young creators to take part.
