Masks & Masquerades celebrates African heritage and invites reflection on shared human stories, enriching and inspiring Luxembourg’s diverse communities. This unmissable exhibition – held in the Art Gallery of Escher Theater until the 22 February 2025 – is an invitation to explore the cultural depths of the people from Edo, Nigeria and the historic Kingdom of Benin.
Through his vibrant acrylic paintings, the artist UNO (Uyi Nosa-Odia), a Nigerian contemporary artist based in Luxembourg, delves into the mystique of African masks and masquerades—symbols of transformation, identity, and spirituality. UNO incorporates traditional patterns and designs inspired by the daily life and ceremonial attire of the Edo people while employing a distinctive technique using improvised tools like cups and bottles to pour and spread paint on canvas, resulting in visually striking compositions. UNO’s work has been showcased in multiple exhibitions nationally and internationally.
